

3. NEVER overcrowd an elevator. If it should happen, excess weight will trigger the safety mechanism and shut down elevator.
4. NEVER intentionally block elevator doors to keep them open. Use the “door open” button instead. Otherwise, the elevator will time out and shut down.
5. NEVER Try to force open an elevator door for any reason!
6. DO protect small objects from falling in gaps between elevator cab and floor.
7. DO ask others on cab closest to elevator buttons to select floor.

12. DO wait patiently in the event of an elevator malfunction for help to arrive.
13. DO use the stairs in case of a fire.

2. Know where the stairs are in the building I
If you are in the elevator during the outage:
1. Don’t panic. Most elevators have an emergency phone that connects directly to the building’s security or maintenance departments.
2. Many elevators have a backup power supply that will bring the elevator to the first floor in the event of an outage.
3. DO NOT open the doors to get out between the floors.
4. DO NOT climb onto the roof of the elevator.
5. Once out of the elevator, do not get back in until the power has been fully restored.
