All summer long the Custodial Operations staff has been tackling projects across the campus. The results are eye-catching and something the staff is very proud to show off! Check out our “Rising Stars” page to see the ‘Kudos’ that just keep rolling in about the staff and their hard work. This page is a sampling of their work and a little background on the products used in this process.
You may or may not be aware that Custodial Operations has been actively involved in the process of ‘going green’ for the last five years. Products with less impact on the health of our customers; the students, faculty, staff and visitors to the Texas State campus are being evaluated and put to the task of beautifying our buildings. Custodial Operation’s management team evaluates each new product based on three criteria:
Does it work?
Is it healthy, safe for our staff to use, and environmentally friendly?
Is it a value?
Three such products added to the Custodian’s magic potions are Zoooom, INVINCIBLE™ and Aspire. Combining an eco-friendly blend of readily biodegradable ingredients and emulsifiers, ZOOOOM actively penetrates dried floor finish films for fast, thorough stripping action. ZOOOOM’s low-odor formula with a mild pH contains no harsh caustics yet achieves outstanding wetting and maximum penetration for easy floor finish removal.
Invincible is a new floor finish based on proven Micro Molecular Technology. It provides superior “off-the-mop” initial gloss, exceptional film clarity, and “megawear”. INVINCIBLE™ is uniquely formulated for ideal drying in high humidity conditions (we have high hopes J ), repels soil, scuffs and scratches to provide long lasting protection and beauty. It saves time and labor with fewer coats, minimizes maintenance requirements, stays clear and bright longer. The environmental impact is lessened because the finish lasts much longer than the previous product and cleans-up well with dust mopping and an infrequent wet mopping.
After the Invincible is down they apply several coats of ‘green’ Aspire. When it needs a brighter shine, the custodians simply strip the top layer and add another top coat, as this finish does not yellow or darken over time. They never touch the INVINCIBLE™ and the floors are protected for years! The bonus is that you have a bright, clear, shiny floor that is considered ‘green’ by the USGBC’s (U.S. Green Building Council) LEED certification process.
Shown here are recent projects completed at the Cogen Plant as massive construction finally comes to an end, the End Zone, Health Professions, Flowers Hall and Old Main. Though this is certainly not a complete list of projects under-taken and accomplished by this hard working group of professionals; we think you’ll agree that their work is a shining example of teamwork with pride.
