We gotcha! He was surprised to learn that the promotion he had worked very diligently for was now officially his; Crew Supervisor, Midnight Stars!

Will Crosby knew when he saw the ASTRA software in action that Custodial Operations could use this technology. He received a Just In Time Award for bringing us this time-saving & organizational aid.
Which came first the JITA or the promotion? To know Will Crosby is to know that it really doesn't matter. What matters is that he has worked hard to earn the respect of his peers and staff. Recently he was surprised by Custodial Operations Director, Kim Graves and other members of the management team. They showed-up unannounced to offer congratulations on his promotion to Crew Supervisor, complete with banner and an Ice Cream Party for Will and his team, the Midnight Stars. This team works from 4:00 pm until 11:00 pm and does a fantastic job keeping their customers happy because they are dedicated to getting the job done right. Check the pictures of Flowers Hall and Health Professions for a glimpse of some of their handiwork.
Will began his career with Custodial Operations June 11th, 2007. With a degree in Information Technology, you don't have to sell Will on the idea of utilizing technology to it's fullest. In fact, he's quick to recognize when an application might benefit the entire department. When Custodial Supervisor, Fermin Torrez mentioned the ASTRA program to Will, he knew that this was a technology tool we needed to add to the Custodial tool belt. Will was awarded a Just In Time Award for bringing this idea to the department and it reads:
"William followed up on getting information from the Astra program that would allow us to find out a list of all academic sections, all non-academic events on campus and a list of each space on campus and the scheduled activities in each. This program will be used every year to help us monitor traffic flow in any building on campus, better prepare for each semester, and budget our supplies to ensure a smoother transition. William’s efforts will benefit the entire department for years to come!"

ARLETTE ESCOBAR
In July, Arlette received a Just In Time Award for her professional and down-to-earth approach to coordinating the department's training on SAP. Arlette has tremendous patience and empathy for her co-workers who are not as adept at the computer systems as she is. It is often surprising that someone who is so comfortable working with a myriad of software applications can also teach them effectively and in a language the average person can understand. Arlette very definitely has that skill. Her most recent Just In Time Award reads:
“To Arlette Escobar for going above and beyond her role as Administrative Assistant III and Timekeeper for Custodial Operations. Arlette has taken the time, initiative, and interest in our staff to develop multimedia presentations in a language and step-by-step progression we can all understand for timekeeping. In addition, she has developed “pilot” systems and programs to individualize timekeeping for our special needs according to shift to make sure everything works smoothly prior to implementation. Arlette listens to staff and integrates our needs with the often complex and cumbersome systems at the university making it smooth for all. Thank you for your initiative and most of all your listening to the needs of your largest customers…129 custodial staff.”
Congratulations, Arlette!
Nathan Kahutek
When you hear student worker you don't always think of someone stepping-up to 'run the place' during a staffing transition. Well, that's exactly what Nathan Kahutek did. As Custodial Operations continues to evolve to address the changing needs of the department and it's customers, staffing restructuring is part of that metamorphosis. Well, Nathan recently earned a Just In Time Award and we think it says it quite clearly. It reads:
“In this period of transition, Nathan has done an incredible job in the workshop; overall he has managed and “run” the place. He makes repairs, continues the preventive maintenance program, keeps updates on the computer, takes repair calls, cleans the shop, keeps up with all laundry, overall has kept the operations running. Now that we have hired a Technician, Nathan is actively assisting in training of our new Custodial Technician. He has definitely “stepped up to the plate” with a maturity, patience and quiet dignity that has come to be admired by all the staff. "
Thank you Mr. Kohutek for you dedication to Custodial Operations and our staff.”
Margie Brownsberger
She’s one of the new kids on the block in Custodial Ops. Margie began her career Feb. 23rd as Administrative e Asst II, Special Projects; and is an admitted ‘happy geek’. In fact she is so attached to her computer that we sometimes have to pry her away. But, that love of computer work was just what Custodial Operations needed to launch an overhaul of their Material Safety Data Sheets. And to create a chemical information database. The goal was to share information with the community we serve. We want you to know the chemicals we use and we want you to know that we are making every effort to ‘go green’ whenever feasible. Collaboratively with the management team and her supervisor, Lance Trottier she created a presentation to show EHRSRM exactly what the intent was for the web site. EHRSRM reviewed and approved the web page creation. Margie received a JITA for her efforts which reads:
“In her presentation to Mr. Fogarty, she quite obviously “wowed” him as he got excited during and after he viewed her work. During and after her presentation to Terry Dowdy and Bill Hollingsworth of EHSRM, both expressed excitement over her work and her presentation, stating that in their years, they had never seen anything quite like it. Mr. Dowdy signed-off on the programs, allowing us to implement and go forward with our intention of creating the Custodial Operations web page for these programs.”
