Kim Graves, Director of Custodial Operations brings a solid background in health care and regulatory services to Texas State. She received her BS from Texas State in Health Information Systems and her graduate degree in Education Administration. After a semester teaching at the under-graduate level, Kim joined Custodial Operations in 1994. Kim has served on the Greater Austin Quality Council as an Examiner, is a trained Team Facilitator through Texas State and a Certified Team Facilitator through Scientific Methods "GRID" Management techniques. She is an Institutional member for Central Association of Physical Plant Administrators (CAPPA), a member of the Custodial Management Association of Texas and is certified by the Association of Higher Education Facility Officers (APPA). Fermin Torrez, Custodial Supervisor is directly responsible for daily operations of all Crew Supervisors, Head Custodians and line staff. After serving our country in the U.S. Military, Fermin’s experience in the food service and hospitality industry uniquely qualify him to balance the provision of services and customer satisfaction to the university community. Additionally, he is responsible for maintaining supply budgets and quantities as well as project and event planning for Custodial Services. Mr. Torrez is the point of contact for all vendors to our department. He serves on the Diversity committee and is a member of the Central Association of Physical Plant Administrators.
J.R. (Walter) Herring, Crew Supervisor - Day Shift "The Texas State Stars" custodial team, is responsible for supervising approximately 65 line staff who clean over 60 buildings around the campus between the hours of 6:00 am and 3:00 pm. JR's many years of General Contracting experience, have prepared him to be flexible and to adapt quickly to changes. In addition, his experience at project planning insures that his team plans special cleaning projects well in advance.
William Crosby, Crew Supervisor - Afternoon Shift “The Midnight Stars" has a team of about 30 line staff custodians. This team works from 4:00pm to 12:00 am and are responsible for the custodial service for about 30 buildings at Texas State. Will began his career at Custodial Operations in September, 2007. In that time, he has become very adept at utilizing his expertise with technology to assist him and the department with project planning. Will served his country for four years in the United States Marine Corps as an MP. Following his military career, he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science for Computer Electronics. He has a customer service mindset, due in part to his years as an Operations Manager for the Timberland Company (Designer, Manufacturer and Retailer of Premium Quality Footwear). Will was on the startup team opening new stores in California, Illinois and Texas. Not limiting his computer skills to just the workplace, Will also serves his church (Abundant Life Church in San Marcos) as the Head of the Media Ministry.
Head Custodian of the Midnight Stars Team: Bruce Burr
Phillip Williams, Crew Supervisor - Night Shift "L Noche Knights" has a spirited team of about 25 line staff custodians. While most of us are sleeping, this team cleans about seven campus buildings, including most of Alkek Library (2nd - 7th floors). Since starting his career in Custodial Operations in September of 1997, Phillip has made customer service his primary goal. Phillip knows how to build a cohesive team and develop potential of the line staff.
Rosalinda Rodriguez, Think of professional service with a calm, efficient demeanor and you'll think of Rosalinda. For more than 20 years she has consistently provided the highest quality of service in very high profile areas of the Texas State University campus.
Office Administration
Arlette Escobar, Administrative Assistant III, Certified Educational Office Professional (CEOP) serves as the office manager for this large department. She is responsible for the administrative office operations, departmental budgets, position control, HR functions, records retention program, time administrator and is the web page master. Arlette serves as a member of the Finance Support Services Newsletter committee, Custodial Management Association of Texas member, Texas Educational Support Staff Association member, National Association of Educational Office Professionals member and served as the 2009 Secretary of the Hispanic Policy Network on campus. Arlette received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Texas State University with a minor in Political Science. Arlette came to the department in 2005 from the banking industry and brings excellent accounting and administrative skills to the office operation.
April Castro, Administrative Assistant II supports the office administration with her experience in healthcare administration & customer service. This provides an excellent basis for her role as the point of contact for all customers, maintenance of personnel records, departmental databases, assisting in the hiring process and coordination of departmental events as well as web maintenance responsibilities. Mrs. Castro serves as a member of the Texas Educational Support Staff Association and National Association of Educational Office Professionals.
Training and Workshop
Lance Trottier, certified by the Custodial Management Institute, serves as the department's Trainer and Workshop supervisor. Lance provides new employee training to all employees as well as insuring all required training and professional development is accomplished. Mr. Trottier joined the department in 2005 with many years of experience in safety with the manufacturing industry. He serves as the departmental Additional Duty Safety Officer as well as supervising the Workshop operations.
Margie Brownsberger, Administrative Assistant II-Special Projects supports the training program by maintaining departmental training database, MSDS books, scheduling staff training, assisting in Hazardous Communications and Incident/Accident reporting and training. She also shares web maintenance responsibilities. Margie joined the department with many years of administration, safety/security and customer service experience. Margie is an member of Toastmaster's International. She was recently elected to the office of Vice President of Public Relations for San Marcos Toastmasters. Larry Martinez, Custodial Workshop Technician is responsible for equipment preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, laundry services, equipment inventory, vehicle maintenance, maintains inventory of gas cards, keys, and computer inventory.
